Over the last two years, thanks to generous funding, we introduced 84 1st graders to a day of urban adventures, canoeing, fire-building, tent set-up and nature hikes, right in their own community! Our Wilderness Inquiry days at Powderhorn Park were the first time ANY of our students went canoeing, the first that most roasted a marshmallow and the first that many of them had ever visited this incredible neighborhood resource! We would like this year’s 1st graders to have the same amazing experience. We believe that in order to close the achievement gap, it is necessary not only to grow our students academically, but also to provide them with otherwise inaccessible life experiences.
