Former St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman is a passionate outdoorsman, deeply committed to programs that connect urban youth to nature. He first became involved with Wilderness Inquiry through the “Glacier Project,” an initiative he launched to bring St. Paul Public School students to Glacier National Park. It is now one of the culminating experiences for participants in the Canoemobile program. Bridging the education gap has been at the core of Mayor Coleman’s agenda. Canoemobile is one of many programs the Mayor is championing because of its proven success. Launched in 2008, it has provided outdoor learning experiences for more than 12,000 students each year to increase engagement and provide new opportunities.
Mayor Coleman served as the President of the National League of Cities, where he pursued an agenda of strong cities, closing the achievement gap, and providing new opportunities for underserved youth and families.
