Custom Gateway Events

Is your group home, family or facility looking for an event, field trip or vacation for clients, residents, or members with cognitive disabilities? Let us help you do it. You can choose from any of our existing trip options, or we can put together a trip that meets your group’s needs. With high staff to participant ratios, adaptive equipment, and specialized itineraries, Gateway experiences provide the extra support needed to make sure that your group has a safe and fun experience. Wilderness Inquiry has over 30 years of experience working with adults of all ability levels, especially youth and adults with cognitive impairments.

Day Trips:

Wilderness Inquiry conducts day trips for all types of groups including day programs, residential services, and support groups. Day trips are a great way to get outdoors and do something original with your group. Day trips take place anywhere there is a body of water to paddle or a trail to hike. Groups range in size from 6 to 150; most groups are between 8 and 30 people. Gateway specializes in serving adults with developmental disabilities and other cognitive impairments. Fees for day trips range between $30 and $95 per person, depending upon group size and what activities are involved. We provide all the gear and expert staff, as well as transportation and food if requested.

Extended Trips:

We can put together a custom trip for you to any of our destinations. Canoeing, kayaking, hiking, dog-sledding, and horse packing are our specialties.  As part of the Gateway to Adventure program, we provide the extra support needed to make sure that everyone in the group has a safe and enjoyable experience. These trips are perfect for introducing people to outdoor recreational opportunities. Group sizes typically range from 6 to 30 people. Trip fees cover everything, including trip planning and logistics, transportation, meals, experienced, high-quality staff, and high quality gear.

Hear What Other Groups are Saying

“It’s been hectic since getting back from my first WI trip, but I wanting to tell you how much I loved the experience. I got a real sense for how WI approaches inclusion, and I was so thrilled at how natural it was. It is so clear that inclusion is just is WI’s way of doing business- which is the ultimate outcome that KIT seeks from the programs we serve. It was beautiful, perfect, seamless inclusion. The trip was such a rich experience for me in so many ways. My plan is to also promote WI by writing a blog post for our KIT blog send this out through KIT’s network.” Torrie Dunlap, CPLP, Chief Executive Officer Kids Included Together (KIT)

“Wilderness Inquiry trips have been a vital part of our program. It is the pinnacle of our youth group’s experience–we could not do it without you.” — Julie O, Paraquad Center for Independent Living

“All of our participants were able to have experiences they have never had before, and being able to observe their apprehension, excitement, growth and participation made the entire week “worth it” for me.  The WI staff’s ability to work with this group of young people who typically have trouble socializing and stepping outside of their comfort zone was key in making this so successful.” — Nancy P., Milwaukee Center for Independence
