Trainings, Certification Courses, and Staff Events

Wilderness Inquiry conducts a wide variety of trainings and certifications each year. Topics range from water safety and wilderness first aid to training on inclusion and adaptive equipment. We also share information on training done by partner organizations. Some training is exclusively for our trail guides, while other training is open to the public. Click on any of the links below for more information about a specific training. To be considered for employment as a trail guide at Wilderness Inquiry you must possess or be actively seeking certification in the following:

  1. First Aid and CPR. Options Include:
    • Wilderness-focused: WFA, WAFA, WFR, WEMT (WMA, WMI, SOLO)
    • Basic First Aid & CPR (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, many fire departments and hospitals also offer certifications)
  2. Water Safety. Options Include:
    • Wilderness Water Safety (Hosted by WI each spring. See below for dates)
    • Swift Water Rescue
    • Lifeguard / Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross, YMCA)
  3. A current driver’s license and a safe driving record
