K-12 students prepare to canoe the Mississippi River on a creative field trip learning experience

K-12 School Groups

Want to experience outdoor learning and adventure for K-12 students? Wilderness Inquiry offers a range of outdoor learning and adventure opportunities designed for K-12 students of all backgrounds and abilities.

Elementary School Adventures: These typically take place on land at a local park or natural area close to your school.

Middle School Adventures: These can include 1/2-day paddle experiences in our 24′ handmade Voyageur Canoes, overnights in a local park, or multi-day adventures in a National or State Park.  We adjust our programs and activities to meet the needs of middle school age youth.

High School Adventures: For high school students, our adventures take on a little different tone. These 1/2 day, overnight and multi-day adventures tend to be a little more action-oriented, may include service components, and lesson plans are adjusted accordingly. High school students may also take longer expeditions and study abroad opportunities.

Day Trip Options:  We offer a variety of day trip options, including custom experiences to meet the needs of your group.

Educator Resources:  We collaborate with teachers to design and implement place-based education curriculum.  This curriculum bridges the indoor and outdoor classrooms.

Wilderness Inquiry works with many school districts, from Minneapolis and Saint Paul to Washington, D.C., with our programs called “Urban Wilderness Canoe Adventures” and “Canoemobile.” We also work with charter schools, private schools, enrichment and alternative learning programs. We can help you tailor your lesson plans to desired learner outcomes for students using nature as your classroom.
