On Trail: Lachelle Cunningham in the Apostle Islands

“I was in my happy place (The Nature) this past weekend…had a pretty dope adventure at the Apostle Islands with Wilderness Inquiry (WI) and a group of BADASS women aged from late teens to 60/70’s!

It all started with a TIP TEST that few of us really wanted to do. This is when you have to tip your kayak and know how to get yourself out from underneath the boat.

I was not looking forward to it but something about the water just calms me and I wasn’t even nervous, I actually found it fun and exhilarating! While others didn’t enjoy it at all, every one of us mastered it!

Each day, we camped, kayaked, did a restorative yoga practice led by an awesome instructor, Sarah Hurst, and had our meals, happy hour and s’mores and shared our vulnerabilities about the trip around the campfire. Everyone got along really well and really worked together as a team (those fancy kayaks are heavy!).

Our camp guides made some pretty good meals, but I did get to show off some skills making croutons for the salad other than that I got to relax, not cook and reflect on the meal plans for future trips.

The only things I could have done without were the bugs, the outhouse and wearing a wetsuit in warm weather…but that’s all a part of it and I had a blast through it all too!  The weather was beautiful and Lake Superior was gorgeous…these photos do no justice! I can’t wait to go back again for more adventures with WI!  Thank you for inviting me!
