| Sample Itinerary | |
| DAY 1: Your trip starts in early afternoon at Wilderness Inquiry's base in Little Sand Bay. First, we'll visit the farmers market in Cornucopia, to stock up on fresh provisions and meet local farmers supplying our food. We will have our first "local lunch" at the farmers market. Later in the afternoon, we'll set up camp, go over safety issues, and begin to explore this area's beautiful hemlock and cedar trees. We'll fashion a dinner of cedar planked walleye, fire roasted rosemary potatoes, garden fresh greens and end the meal with lavender berry crumble (and, of course, s'mores) while we learn about the area and get to know each other. DAY 2: Start the day with a hearty breakfast of locally smoked fish, steel cut oats and good (strong) coffee or cocoa. We'll become orientated to our 21-foot sea kayaks. Depending on weather and the direction of the wind, options for the day include paddling out to explore the skeleton of the famous Fedora shipwreck near Buffalo Bay and a visit to one of the areas bio-dynamic farms that runs completely off the grid, near Bayfield, WI. In the evening we will prepare a feast of grilled herb-stuffed trout, fire roasted corn, fresh salsa, and berry shortcakes. DAY 3: Rise to the scent of freshly brewed coffee, sizzling sausage and pancakes to fortify the next adventure. Paddle out to Sand Island where you will get a chance to explore the vast chambers of the sea caves. After a hearty lunch of local sausages, cheeses and breads on a sandy beach, paddle onward to the historic lighthouse on the northwest shore. Spend the evening back at base camp and learn how to make rustic pizzas on a campfire topped with sun-ripened tomatoes, local cheeses, and local sausages and ham. Then just relax and enjoy one last campfire with your new friends. DAY 4: Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast of real hash browns, eggs and toast. We'll wrap things up mid morning, after preparing one last lunch (to-go) of artisan breads, farmstead cheeses, smoked fish and meat and fruit. Everyone will leave our Little Sand Bay basecamp at 10:30AM. |
