FOOD AND KITCHEN COORDINATOR

TIME/WAGE: Temporary summer position, 20-30 hours per week. Exact start and end dates are flexible but should be available approximately end of May to Sept 15. $9.00/hr. Housing available as part of compensation package. May be combined with other part-time positions at Wilderness Inquiry.

SUPERVISOR: Director of Administration

Wilderness Inquiry (WI) is a non-profit organization that focuses on getting people from all walks of life to personally experience the natural world. Since 1978, WI has served over 150,000 people, including many who have disabilities or otherwise do not fit the "wilderness traveler" stereotype. In addition to multi-day outdoor adventures, WI conducts a variety of activities including community events, research, training, equipment design, trail and facility assessments and policy development.

SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Food and Kitchen Coordinator is to purchase and pack food, and to help plan menus for Wilderness Inquiry trips. This job requires superior organizational abilities and strong attention to detail. The ability to plan, implement and follow up on responsibilities as well as oversee projects independently is essential. Knowledge of food handling and preparation is preferred. Must be willing to keep flexible hours, including weekends. Excellent follow-through with tasks is essential!

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Check with Program staff to obtain menus and shopping lists for their trips.
  • Maintain sufficient quantities of designated bulk food items.
  • Pack food for Wilderness Inquiry trips utilizing in-stock, bulk foods or, when necessary, items purchased from various supermarkets (fresh produce, etc.).
  • Daily cleaning and organizing of the food room
  • Order online and make shopping trips to various food suppliers and run errands as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A current driver' s license and a safe driving record.
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and food up to 50 lbs
  • A personal vehicle to be used for work related errands preferred (mileage reimbursed)
