Certification Information

To be considered for employment as a trail staff at our organizations you must possess or be actively seeking certification in the following:

1. First Aid:

• Wilderness First Responder is preferred
• A first aid course sponsored by WMI, WMA, SOLO, EMSRB or Red Cross (e.g., WAFA, WFA, AFA, WEMT, EMT)
  

2. Water Safety:

• Lifeguard / Professional Rescuer
• Wilderness Water Safety
• Swift Water Rescue
  

3. CPR

4. A current driver's license and a safe driving record

Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) and Wilderness EMT can be obtained from:
• Wilderness Medical Associates - COURSE SCHEDULE
• Wilderness Medical Institute - COURSE SCHEDULE
• SOLO - COURSE SCHEDULE

CPR and Advanced First Aid certifications can be obtained from:
• American Red Cross
• Universities, Community Colleges, or Hospitals

Wilderness Water Safety and other water related certifications can be obtained from:
• Wilderness Inquiry offers a Wilderness Water Safety course each year in May and June. The course will be held at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis. Call Dave Golden for more information at 651-303-9852. Wilderness Water Safety is a three year certification accepted by the ACA.
