|Minnesota River History “Paddling Theater”|
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Minnesota State Water Trails
Minnesota has the first and largest "Water Trails" system in the nation, and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. PlaceBase Productions and numerous local performers will bring the stories and natural history of the Minnesota River to life in a one-of-a-kind Paddling Theater experience! The paddling audience will engage with actors on land and from their canoes, in story and in song, from Granite Falls to Upper Sioux Agency State Park. Characters from throughout history will emerge on the river banks, islands and other watercraft, to lead the audience on an interactive journey into the past and future of the Minnesota River Valley.
Start: KK Berge Building 10:00 am (View Map)
End: Upper Sioux Agency State Park 6:00 pm (View Map)
Fee: $10 in advance
Description: No paddling experience required. Participants must provide their own transportation to Granite Falls.
Registration for this exciting event has reached capacity. If you are interested in participating, please join the waiting list, and we'll contact you if a spot opens up. Thank you!
Alternative experience: Paddlers with their own watercraft have the option to paddle a longer route on the Minnesota River (13.3 miles) that will include a stretch of what is estimated to become Class I-II rapids. These rapids have not been paddled in 107 years, and will emerge because of the recent Minnesota Falls dam removal. If you would like to paddle your own watercraft on this stretch, click here for more information and to register.
**Upper Sioux Agency State Park camping reservations can be made here.
